(Re)significando el aborto: a 10 años de la ley de Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo en Uruguay

Entre 2002 y 2012, Uruguay adoptó una serie de leyes para garantizar los derechos sexuales y reproductivos, incluyendo la Ley N.º 18.987 de Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo. Esa ley, como construcción social, es producto del debate público y del activismo incansable de organizaciones feministas y de derechos de las mujeres. También, la ley es un poderoso agente de construcción de significados que estabiliza y codifica marcos o maneras de concebir los fenómenos sociales, en este caso el aborto. Siguiendo a Balkin, la ley puede comprenderse como una herramienta para entenderse a uno mismo, a otres y al mundo en el que vivimos. A su vez, en un proceso dinámico y recíproco, las personas se involucran, evitan o resisten el derecho y los significados legales. Utilizando material cualitativo obtenido en una serie de entrevistas con informantes calificados, la encuesta de trayectorias de acceso al aborto en Uruguay y el material de archivo del proyecto Contá Conmigo, este artículo analiza las diferentes formas en las que las participantes se posicionan frente a la ley, disputándole a la construcción legal el monopolio del significado mediante otras maneras de sentir, entenderse y organizarse en torno al aborto.
