Autopsy of a Ghost: Exhuming the Mario Fenelli Archive

Abstract
Of Argentinian nationality, though his career is entirely Italian, Mario Fenelli remains an enigma, a ghostly figure who seems to strive to always retreat into the background. Nevertheless, he is immortalized in the credits of the films he wrote and, above all, as a constant presence in the life of his great friend Manuel Puig: perpetually mentioned in his correspondence and co-author with him of two unpublished screenplays in Italian. A writer, filmmaker, and custodian of the keys to understanding Puig's mythical transition from cinema to literature, this article aims to rescue Mario Fenelli from the oblivion and confusion to which his reclusiveness condemned him and to shed light on his figure through his archive.
