Abstract

Recent Argentine literature on sexual abuse is produced as part of feminist disputes and the social possibility of hearing cases of gender-based violence. This paper analyzes Degenerado (2019) by Ariana Harwicz as part of the aforementioned trend, focusing on deviations and inflections. Drawing from affect and listening theories (Ahmed, 2015; Giorgi, 2024), it proposes to approach the novel through interrelated axes: the accused's place of enunciation, the forms of public listening, and discursive power structures. On one hand, the accused's place of enunciation has identity and history. Through various affective strategies, it hierarchically distributes discourse and constructs an ambiguity that exempts him from responsibility. The external voices, on the other hand, belong to the field of the defense's listening and intervene without recognizable bodies. Despite their dispersion, they delineate the limit of the audible, redirect the affective perspective, and reduce ambiguity. In this way, through enunciation and listening, the hierarchy of discourses is conditioned, and the place of affects and the narrative imposed by the accused regarding events of gender-based violence are disputed.
